Eric Singleton

West coast Artist Eric Singleton's themes deal with celestial forces, organic images and iconic symbols from experiences through his travels; The masterworks of the monumental and mythical history of the Pacific Northwest and it's coastal native peoples, the art and culture of the Polynesian people of Tahiti, and the old world art of the European image makers. Being a third generation sculptor he respects traditional values, working in classical mediums such as bronze, stone and wood, along with native styles of architecture, and paint & canvas. Through these mediums he freely expresses his ideas in the style of a classical and sometimes impressionist form. This artist offers new vistas to approach old world knowledge that could be a valuable tool to our contemporary society in dealing with the human comedy.

'Mythology and art seemlessly blended together to become the moment of now. At this place I discover a workbench for the seeking part of myself, a free-er self, open to possibility, able to conceive of potential as a vehicle to explore this cosmic reality. This 'living-ology' is the myth behind the exploration of my art. I see each person's encounter with life as a journey with greater experiences in each moment. Being conscious of symbolic action brings these characters into the light of life as to be seen. Illuminated and invibed with noble, compassionate and humanistic points of view, we can remind ourselves as to the purpose of reverence. Inside this environment I can view the beauty and the grandeur this trail of life has to offer in this continuing movement. If the artisan sees clearly he can convey a direct experience of a given moment. In my art I reach for this place of now in order to express this. Within each of us is a living mythology, experiencing the self through our actions, so it is our decision to use the forces we use ultimately to become the human or the creature of our making.'

Eric is regularly commissioned for fine artwork in a variety of mediums and sizes, from jewelry to monumental sculpture. Many of these artworks are by his customers incorporated into the architectural features of their homes. 'I enjoy speaking with people about the stories and legends of their lives, and the lives of their families. Working with the clients' idea and helping design iconic symbols to represent important people, supernatural deeds, or milestone events of someone's family or organization challenges my ability to see something outside myself and express the client's idea as they see it in a form that is truly unique to the individual's life experiences.
